Richard Rogers – Nuovo Centro Scandicci

Richard Rogers, the world renowned Florence born, London based architect is leading on a budding urban project which is found in a little known suburb of Florence, called Scandicci.

Known for the Pompidou Centre in Paris and the Lloyds TSB in London, to name just two, this is the first A to Z development, project managed by the Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners Studio (RSH+P ) from the Master Plan of the city to the final construction stages.

The City of Scandicci has shown a very brave and considerable shift away from the planning strangle hold on traditional style and taken an unusual risk with this modern design and Master Plan.

Commenced in 2001, reconstructing Scandicci will have been twelve years in the making by its planned completion date in November 2013. What does the top architect have to say about Florence, Scandicci and the world at large?
